Short answer: Barcelona-El Prat Airport (BCN) is about 205 km and roughly 3 hours by road from Andorra la Vella. By public transport, three operators run direct coaches to Andorra la Vella in about 3h30: Andbus (from the airport or Diagonal, €33), Andorra Direct Bus (from Sants, also listing airport stops, €35) and Alsa (from Estació del Nord, from €31). Arriving by plane, Andbus is the one that leaves straight from T1 and T2. The most convenient is a private, pre-booked transfer that goes door to door, with fixed prices from €299 per vehicle. Self-drive takes about 3 hours via the C-16 and the Cadí tunnel (€14.56 toll). There is no practical train option. From 1 November to 15 May, Andorra requires winter tyres or snow chains.

1. Bus: direct coaches to Andorra
Three operators run direct coaches to the Andorra la Vella bus station, each taking about 3h30. If you are landing at BCN, Andbus is the simplest: it leaves directly from the terminals.
Andbus: from the airport (T1/T2) or Diagonal
- Route: Airport T1 → Airport T2 → Barcelona Diagonal → Andorra la Vella.
- Departures from T1: every 2 hours from 06:45 to 22:45, plus 00:45 (T2 is 15 minutes later).
- Price: €33 one way, €56 return (web prices; a cheaper "A-Prime" fare of €15 is also listed).
Andorra Direct Bus: from Barcelona Sants
- Where: Barcelona Sants station. The operator's website also lists airport pick-ups (T1 Floor 0, platforms 7–12; T2 between Terminals B and C), so check the stop when you book.
- Price: €35 one way listed; fares vary by date, from about €31.50. Multi-trip passes are available.
Alsa: from Barcelona Estació del Nord
- Where: Estació del Nord coach station in central Barcelona, so from the airport you first need to get into the city.
- Price: from €31 one way (fares vary by date).
Pros: cheap, with frequent departures across the three operators. Cons: the coach stops at the Andorra la Vella bus station, so ski resorts like Soldeu or Pas de la Casa still need a local bus or taxi. A delayed flight can mean waiting for the next coach.
2. Car rental: driving from Barcelona to Andorra
The usual route is C-16 (via Terrassa, Manresa and Berga) → Cadí tunnel → Bellver de Cerdanya → N-260 to La Seu d'Urgell → CG-1 into Andorra via the La Farga de Moles border. It is about 205 km and takes about 2h45–3h in good conditions (approximate). An alternative is the C-14 via Ponts and Organyà to La Seu d'Urgell. It avoids the Cadí toll but is a slower, winding road (time not verified).

- Cadí tunnel (2026 toll): €14.56 for a car or van up to 9 seats (category 2), €11.73 for motorbikes. The C-16 sections around Terrassa–Manresa have their own tolls; check current rates.
- Winter rules in Andorra (1 Nov – 15 May): every vehicle must have winter/M+S tyres or carry snow chains, even on clear roads. In a "red" snow phase, chains are mandatory for all vehicles and the speed limit is 30 km/h.
- Check conditions: mobilitat.ad (Andorra) and the Servei Català de Trànsit (Catalonia).
Pros: full flexibility. Cons: mountain driving after a flight, winter equipment (ask whether the rental includes it), cross-border and one-way fees from some rental companies, and Sunday-evening queues at the border.
3. Taxi
Licensed taxis wait at T1 and T2. A metered fare to Andorra is long-distance and not fixed. Ask for a written price before departure and confirm tolls and night or weekend surcharges.
4. Private transfer (pre-booked, fixed price)
A private transfer means a professional driver waiting at arrivals and taking you straight to your hotel or chalet, with the price agreed in advance. You don't need winter driving skills or to fit chains, and you don't need to fit your flight around a timetable.
ANDY has been based in Andorra since 2021 and runs this route every day:
| Vehicle | Barcelona Airport ↔ Andorra (fixed, per vehicle) |
|---|---|
| Comfort | €299 |
| Van | €389 |
| Van XL | €399 |
- Flight tracking included: if your flight is late, the driver adjusts.
- Free cancellation up to 24h before pickup.
- Rated 4.8/5 on Trustpilot.
For a group of 4–7 people, a van can cost less per person than self-drive once you add rental, fuel, tolls and winter equipment. → Book a Barcelona Airport to Andorra la Vella transfer
Winter and ski-season tips

- Ski resorts: from Barcelona you enter Andorra from the south, so Andorra la Vella and Arinsal (Pal Arinsal) are the closest. Canillo, Soldeu, El Tarter and Pas de la Casa (Grandvalira) are further up the CG-2. See transfers to Arinsal, Canillo, Soldeu, El Tarter, Pas de la Casa and Grandvalira ski area.
- Weekend traffic: Friday evenings heading north and Sunday afternoons heading south bring the heaviest traffic and border queues. Add a buffer for return flights.
- Snow days: the C-16 north of Berga and the Andorran roads up to the resorts can need chains. Check mobilitat.ad.
- Luggage: tell your transfer company about skis and snowboard bags so they can send the right vehicle size.
Border and customs: what to know
Andorra is not in the EU and is not part of the Schengen area. Its customs union with the EU covers industrial goods only, so there is a real customs post at the Spanish border (La Farga de Moles / Sant Julià de Lòria). Bring your passport or national ID card. When you go back into Spain, duty-free allowances apply to tobacco, alcohol and other goods. Spanish customs limits for travellers coming from Andorra were not verified for this guide, so check the Agencia Tributaria before you buy. Declare anything above the limits. Expect checks and queues on the way out of Andorra, especially on Sunday afternoons.
