How to Get from Barcelona Airport to Baqueira Beret (2026 Guide)

Fixed price per vehicle · Free cancellation up to 24h

Short answer: Baqueira Beret, in the Val d'Aran, is one of the largest ski resorts in the Spanish Pyrenees, and Barcelona-El Prat (BCN) is the airport with the most flights to reach it. By road it is roughly 260–285 km depending on the route, about 3h30 to 4 hours in good conditions, via Lleida, the N-230 and the Vielha tunnel. By public transport there is no direct bus to the slopes: ALSA coaches go from Barcelona to Vielha (around 5 hours), then a local bus continues to Baqueira. In winter the high Bonaigua pass can close, and it has roadworks until spring 2027. The simplest option with skis and a family is a pre-booked private transfer straight to your hotel or apartment.

Times are approximate and depend on weather, snow and traffic. Distances vary between sources depending on the route.

1. Bus: ALSA to Vielha, then the local bus

ALSA runs coaches from Barcelona to Vielha, the capital of the Val d'Aran. Depending on the service, they leave from Barcelona Estació del Nord or other city-centre stops, so from the airport you first need to get into Barcelona.

  • Journey: about 5 hours to Vielha; allow around 6 hours door to door with the onward bus.
  • From Lleida: ALSA also runs several coaches a day between Lleida and Vielha, about 2h30 to 3 hours.
  • Vielha → Baqueira: a local ALSA line runs through the valley (Vielha, Betren, Escunhau, Arties, Salardú, Tredòs) to Baqueira. A timetable published in June 2026 showed only a few departures a day, so check the current winter times.
  • Ski buses: in the ski season, local ski buses link the villages with the Baqueira lift base.
  • Fare: we could not confirm the Barcelona–Vielha fare on ALSA's site. Check alsa.com for your date.

Pros: the cheapest option. Cons: a long day after a flight, at least one change, and ski bags on coaches.

2. Train: AVE to Lleida, then coach

There is no railway into the Val d'Aran. The fastest rail option is a high-speed train from Barcelona Sants to Lleida-Pirineus, about 1 hour, then the ALSA coach to Vielha. From the airport, add the trip to Sants. This saves little time over the direct coach and adds changes with luggage.

3. Car rental: driving from Barcelona to Baqueira

The usual all-weather route is A-2 / AP-2 to Lleida → N-230 north via El Pont de Suert → Vielha tunnel → Vielha → C-28 east via Arties and Salardú to Baqueira.

  • Vielha tunnel: the modern 5.2 km tunnel keeps the Val d'Aran connected all winter.
  • Port de la Bonaigua (C-28, 2,072 m): a shorter, scenic route from the Pallars side, but it can close or be restricted to chains in heavy snow. In winter, use the Vielha tunnel.
  • Bonaigua roadworks (as of 31 October 2026): since 5 October 2026, the C-28 over the pass has been closed Monday to Saturday in several time slots for slope-stabilisation works, with alternating one-lane traffic outside those slots and all day on Sundays. The Generalitat said it would review the restrictions before the ski season. Check the Servei Català de Trànsit before you set off.
  • Winter equipment: carry winter tyres or snow chains. Chains can be legally required during snowstorms. Ask the rental company whether winter equipment is included.

Pros: full flexibility once in the valley. Cons: mountain driving after a flight, snow and chains, and parking at the lift base on busy days.

4. Taxi

Licensed taxis wait at T1 and T2, but a trip to the Val d'Aran is long-distance and metered. Ask for a written price before you set off and confirm tolls and night or weekend supplements.

5. Private transfer (pre-booked, fixed price)

A private transfer means a professional driver waiting at arrivals and taking you straight to your hotel or apartment in Baqueira, Salardú, Arties, Vielha or elsewhere in the valley, with your skis and bags. You don't need to drive mountain roads, fit chains, or change coaches in Barcelona and Vielha.

Ski-season tips

  • Where to stay: the Baqueira base (Baqueira 1500) is at the lifts. Salardú, Tredòs, Arties and Vielha are further down the valley and are served by ski buses.
  • Weekend traffic: Friday evenings heading to the valley and Sunday afternoons heading back are the busiest times. Add a buffer for return flights.
  • Snow days: even the N-230 can need chains during a storm. Check the Servei Català de Trànsit before you leave.
  • Other airports: Toulouse and Lleida-Alguaire are closer by road, but Barcelona has the most flights. Lleida is small and its routes are often seasonal.
