Short answer: Platja d'Aro is in the heart of the central Costa Brava, north-east of Barcelona. From Barcelona-El Prat Airport (BCN) there is a direct Sarfa (Moventis group) coach from T2 and T1 to Platja d'Aro bus station, continuing to Sant Antoni de Calonge, Palamós and Palafrugell, with some services to Begur. It takes about 2h15 to 2h30 and resellers list fares around €23 (from about €18 on some sites). There are only a handful of departures a day. A taxi is direct but metered. For families, groups or late flights, a pre-booked private transfer goes door to door at a fixed price.

Times depend on traffic leaving Barcelona and on the coast roads in summer.
1. Bus: Sarfa line 1 "Barcelona Airport – Costa Brava"
Sarfa, part of Moventis, runs line 1 from the airport to the Costa Brava.
- Where: Terminal 2 first, then Terminal 1 about 10 minutes later. The coach then stops at Barcelona Estació del Nord before heading up the coast. Passengers cannot travel only between Barcelona and the airport on this line.
- Stops on the central Costa Brava: Santa Cristina d'Aro, Sant Feliu de Guíxols, S'Agaró, Platja d'Aro bus station, Sant Antoni de Calonge, Palamós bus station, Mont-ras and Palafrugell. Some services continue to La Bisbal or to Begur, Pals and L'Escala.
- Winter timetable: the most recent winter PDF we found (1 Nov 2025 – 31 Mar 2026) shows airport departures from T2 at 10:15, 12:00, 14:00, 16:30, 18:00 and 19:45, arriving in Platja d'Aro between about 12:45 and 22:15. Reseller listings for late October 2026 show the same T1 times, but the official 2026–27 winter timetable was not published when we checked. Confirm on moventis.es before you fly.
- Summer: there are more departures in July and August, including very early morning services.
- Fare: CheckMyBus lists €23 for late October 2026 and Movelia shows fares from €18.30. We could not confirm the fare on the operator's site.
Pros: direct, with stops in most central Costa Brava towns. Cons: few departures, a long trip with many stops, and the coach stops at bus stations rather than your hotel.
2. Train + bus
There is no train to Platja d'Aro. You could take a train to Girona and a bus from there, but with the change and luggage this is slower than the direct coach and only makes sense if the coach times do not suit you.
3. Taxi and car hire
Licensed taxis wait outside T1 and T2. The trip to the Costa Brava is long-distance and metered, so ask for a written price before you set off and confirm tolls and supplements.
Car hire is useful if you want to explore coves, Begur and the inland villages, but parking in Platja d'Aro, Calella de Palafrugell and Begur is limited and often paid in summer.
4. Private transfer (pre-booked, fixed price)
A private transfer means a driver waiting at arrivals with your name and a direct ride to your hotel, apartment or villa, with no change and no waiting for a coach.
With ANDY:
- Fixed price, booked in advance: you see the full price before paying.
- Flight tracking included: if your flight is delayed, the driver adjusts.
- Free cancellation up to 24h before pickup.
- Rated 4.8/5 on Trustpilot.
This is especially useful for villas and urbanisations away from the bus stations, and for families or groups, where one vehicle replaces several coach tickets plus a taxi.

Other central Costa Brava towns
- Sant Feliu de Guíxols: the stop just before S'Agaró, a larger town with a harbour, a monastery and its own beach. The coach stops at the town's station.
- S'Agaró: the coach stops here just before Platja d'Aro. It is a small residential area with large villas and the Camí de Ronda coastal path, so most addresses are a walk from the stop.
- Calonge and Sant Antoni de Calonge: the next stops after Platja d'Aro, with several campsites along the coast.
- Palamós: a working fishing port with its own bus station on the line.
- Begur: a hilltop village above coves such as Sa Riera and Aiguablava. Only some coaches stop at Begur (Plaça Forgas), so check the timetable. → Barcelona Airport to Begur transfer
- Calella de Palafrugell: the coach stops at Palafrugell bus station, then you need a local bus or taxi. → Barcelona Airport to Calella de Palafrugell transfer
Which option should you choose?
- Daytime flight, light luggage, budget: the Sarfa coach, if the timetable matches.
- Late arrival, family, group or villa: a pre-booked private transfer.
- Flying into Girona instead? Girona-Costa Brava Airport is much closer. See the Girona Airport to Platja d'Aro transfer.
Practical tips
- Check the airport terminal: the coach stops at T2 first, then T1.
- Summer traffic: in July and August, the roads into Platja d'Aro and Palamós are busy, especially on Saturdays.
- Flying home: coaches back to the airport are just as limited. Book your return ride in advance.
