Short answer: Arinsal, home of the Pal Arinsal ski area, is about 200 km from Barcelona-El Prat Airport (BCN), in the north-west of Andorra beyond Andorra la Vella and La Massana. There is no direct public coach to Arinsal: the usual budget route is the Andbus coach from BCN T1/T2 to Andorra la Vella (about 3h30, €33 one way), then the local L5 bus to Arinsal. Andbus also sells resort and door-to-door options at extra cost. Driving takes you via the C-16 and the Cadí tunnel, with Andorra's winter tyre or chains rule from 1 November to 15 May. The easiest way, especially with skis and a family, is a pre-booked private transfer straight to your hotel or apartment.

1. Bus: Andbus to Andorra la Vella, then L5 to Arinsal
Andbus runs direct coaches from Barcelona Airport to Andorra la Vella bus station.
- Route: Airport T1 → Airport T2 → Barcelona Diagonal → Andorra la Vella.
- Departures from T1: every 2 hours from 06:45 to 22:45, plus 00:45 (T2 about 15 minutes later), as published by Andbus for winter 2026–27.
- Price: €33 one way, €56 return on the Andbus website, as of November 2026.
- Duration: about 3h30 to Andorra la Vella.
From Andorra la Vella, national bus line L5 (Andorra la Vella – Arinsal) runs up the valley via La Massana. Fares are by zone and paid on board. Check the current timetable on bus.ad, as frequencies change between seasons.
Andbus also offers a door-to-door option to resorts: when you book, choose your accommodation in Arinsal and check the price. On narrow or steep streets, shared vehicles drop you at the nearest accessible point.
Pros: cheapest option, and the coach leaves straight from the terminals. Cons: a change in Andorra la Vella with skis and luggage, the coach timetable may not match your flight, and a late flight can mean a long wait.
2. Driving from Barcelona Airport to Arinsal
The usual route is C-16 (Terrassa, Manresa, Berga) → Cadí tunnel → Bellver de Cerdanya → N-260 to La Seu d'Urgell → CG-1 into Andorra at the La Farga de Moles border, then through Andorra la Vella → CG-3 to La Massana → CG-4 to Arinsal.
- Cadí tunnel (2026 toll): €14.56 for a car or van up to 9 seats. The C-16 also has its own tolls around Terrassa and Manresa.
- Winter rules in Andorra (1 November to 15 May): every vehicle must have winter/M+S tyres or carry snow chains. In a "red" snow phase, chains are mandatory and the speed limit is 30 km/h.
- The last stretch: the CG-4 from La Massana to Arinsal climbs a narrow mountain valley. After snowfall it can be slow, and parking in the village is limited.
- Check conditions: mobilitat.ad (Andorra) and the Servei Català de Trànsit (Catalonia).
Pros: full flexibility. Cons: mountain driving after a flight, winter equipment (ask the rental company whether it is included), and Saturday changeover and Sunday border queues.
3. Taxi
Licensed taxis wait at T1 and T2. A metered fare to Andorra is long-distance and not fixed. Ask for a written price before departure, including tolls and night or weekend supplements.
4. Private transfer (pre-booked, fixed price)
A private transfer means your driver meets you at arrivals and takes you directly to your hotel, apartment or chalet in Arinsal, with no change in Andorra la Vella and no chains to fit.
ANDY has been based in Andorra since 2021, with private vehicles and drivers specially assigned to Andorra, so the mountain roads into Arinsal are a daily route:
- Fixed price, booked in advance: you see the full price before paying.
- Flight tracking included: if your flight is late, the driver adjusts.
- Free cancellation up to 24h before pickup.
- Rated 4.8/5 on Trustpilot.
For a ski group or a family, one vehicle replaces several coach and local bus tickets, and the price is per vehicle, not per person.

Ski-season tips for Arinsal
- Closest Andorran resort from Barcelona: you enter Andorra from the south, so Arinsal and the Pal sector are reached before the Grandvalira resorts on the eastern side (Soldeu, El Tarter, Pas de la Casa). For those, see our guide Barcelona Airport to Soldeu and Grandvalira.
- Pal or Arinsal? Pal Arinsal has two base areas. Check which one is closest to your accommodation and lift pass pick-up point.
- Saturday is changeover day: expect the heaviest traffic and border queues on Saturdays and Sunday afternoons heading south. For return flights, leave a generous buffer.
- Snow days: the C-16 north of Berga and the roads up to Arinsal can need chains. Check conditions the evening before you travel.
- Skis and boards: tell your transfer company how many ski or snowboard bags you are bringing, so they send a vehicle with enough space.
- Arriving late: the last Andbus coach of the day reaches Andorra la Vella in the early hours, and local buses will not be running. A pre-booked transfer avoids being stuck in town at night.
Border and customs: what to know
Andorra is not in the EU and is not part of the Schengen area, so there is a customs post at the Spanish border (La Farga de Moles). Bring your passport or national ID card. When you return to Spain, duty-free allowances apply to tobacco, alcohol and other goods: check the Spanish Agencia Tributaria limits before you shop. Expect queues leaving Andorra on Sunday afternoons.
