Short answer: Sitges is one of the closest beach towns to Barcelona-El Prat Airport (BCN), just down the Garraf coast. The simplest public option is the direct BusGarraf (Monbus group) e16 bus from Terminal 1, about 40 minutes. The train is cheap but needs a change: R2 Nord from the airport one stop to El Prat de Llobregat, then R2 Sud to Sitges (about 24 minutes for that second leg). A taxi is direct but metered. For families, groups, late arrivals or a lot of luggage, a pre-booked private transfer takes you to your door at a fixed price.

1. Bus: BusGarraf e16 (direct)
BusGarraf, part of the Monbus group, runs the e16 line linking Barcelona, the airport and Sitges. The Sitges town council lists Monbus as the operator of the Sitges–Airport interurban service.
- Where: Terminal 1, at the interurban bus stops. If you land at T2, take the free shuttle bus between terminals first.
- Journey: about 40 minutes, according to BusGarraf.
- Frequency: BusGarraf publishes the e16 timetable as a PDF on busgarraf.cat. Departures are more frequent at peak times and reduced at weekends and late at night, so check the PDF for your date.
- Fare: we could not verify the current e16 airport fare on the operator's pages when we checked. Ask the driver or check busgarraf.cat. Integrated T-casual tickets for the right zone are also accepted on some lines, so check before you buy.
Pros: direct, no change. Cons: only from T1, and it stops at bus stops in Sitges rather than at your hotel.
2. Train: R2 Nord + R2 Sud via El Prat de Llobregat
The airport train station is in front of Terminal 2, reached by a walkway. From T1, use the free shuttle bus.
- Take the R2 Nord one stop from the airport to El Prat de Llobregat. According to Sitges Tourism, trains leave the airport from 05:42 to 23:38, every 30 minutes.
- At El Prat, change to the R2 Sud towards Sitges / Sant Vicenç de Calders. Trains run every half hour, and the ride to Sitges takes about 24 minutes.
Sitges station is in town, a short walk from the centre and the seafront.
Pros: cheapest option, frequent trains. Cons: a change with luggage, and occasional Rodalies disruptions. Check rodalies.gencat.cat on the day.
3. Taxi
Licensed black-and-yellow taxis wait outside T1 and T2. The fare to Sitges is metered, not fixed, and airport and night supplements may apply. Ask for the price before you set off.
4. Private transfer (pre-booked, fixed price)
A private transfer means a driver waiting in arrivals with your name and a direct ride to your hotel, apartment or villa in Sitges, including addresses in the hills or in Vilanova i la Geltrú nearby, with no timetable to match.
With ANDY:
- Fixed price, booked in advance: you see the full price before paying.
- Flight tracking included: if your flight is delayed, the driver adjusts.
- Free cancellation up to 24h before pickup.
- Rated 4.8/5 on Trustpilot.
This is especially convenient for groups travelling for a wedding, a festival or a weekend, where one vehicle replaces several tickets and a walk from the station.

5. Car hire
All the major rental companies have desks at T1 and T2. The drive to Sitges follows the coast motorway south of the airport. A car is useful if you plan to visit the Penedès wine region or the Garraf natural park, but parking in central Sitges is limited and mostly paid in summer, and many town-centre hotels have no parking of their own. For a beach stay you may not need a car at all.
Which option should you choose?
- Landing at T1, travelling light: the e16 bus.
- Lowest budget, light luggage: the train with a change at El Prat.
- Late arrival, family, group or lots of luggage: a pre-booked private transfer.
- Big events (Carnival, Film Festival, Pride): Sitges gets very busy, so book your transfer early and expect crowded buses and trains.
Practical tips
- Check your terminal: the e16 leaves from T1 and the train from T2. The free inter-terminal shuttle runs around the clock but takes time, so factor it in.
- Train tickets: buy at the machines in the airport station before boarding, and keep your ticket until you exit at Sitges, as you need it for both trains.
- Hotel access: parts of the old town are pedestrian. Your driver will drop you at the closest point.
- Flying home: allow extra time on Sunday evenings, when traffic back towards Barcelona is heavier.
