Short answer: Barcelona-El Prat Airport (BCN) is usually 20 to 30 minutes by road from the cruise terminals, more on busy disembarkation mornings. There is no direct bus from the ship to the airport: the Cruise Bus (€3.50 one way) only takes you from the Adossat Wharf terminals to the bottom of La Rambla, and you then need the Aerobús or the metro. With suitcases, the simplest options are an official taxi (a €46 fixed fare from the Adossat Wharf, supplements included) or a pre-booked private transfer that meets you at your terminal at a fixed price. For a stress-free day, most passengers aim for a flight from about midday onwards.

Road times depend on traffic and how many ships are turning around that morning. Public transport times include walking and waiting.
Know your terminal first
The Port de Barcelona has seven international cruise terminals:
- Terminals A, B, C, D (Palacruceros), E (Helix) and the MSC terminal are on the Adossat Wharf (Moll Adossat), a long breakwater south of the old town. They are not designed to be reached on foot.
- The World Trade Center terminal (WTCB) is on the Moll de Barcelona, a short walk from the Columbus monument and Drassanes metro station.
Your terminal is on your cruise documents and can change from one call to the next, even for the same ship, so check it again a few days before you disembark. It matters for two reasons: the Cruise Bus only serves the Adossat terminals, and the fixed taxi fare applies to the Adossat Wharf.
1. Official taxi
Black-and-yellow Barcelona taxis wait at ranks outside the terminals when ships are in. Between the Adossat Wharf and the airport there is a flat fare of €46 in either direction, with supplements included (AMB tariff T-4, as reported in November 2026). From the World Trade Center terminal, the normal meter applies, plus the airport supplement.
Pros: direct, and the price from the Adossat Wharf does not depend on traffic. Cons: queues at the rank on big turnaround mornings, and a standard taxi may not take a family of five with large cruise suitcases.
2. Private transfer (pre-booked, fixed price)
A private transfer means a driver waiting for you at your terminal, help with luggage, and a direct ride to your airport terminal (T1 or T2) at a price agreed when you book.
With ANDY:
- Fixed price, booked in advance: you see the full price before paying, in euros.
- Flight tracking included (useful when you book the airport-to-ship leg on embarkation day).
- Free cancellation up to 24h before pickup.
- Rated 4.8/5 on Trustpilot.
Give your ship, terminal and disembarkation time when booking so the pickup is planned around when you will actually be off the ship.

3. Cruise Bus + Aerobús or metro
On days when ships are in port, the Cruise Bus shuttles between the Adossat terminals and Portal de la Pau, by the Columbus monument at the bottom of La Rambla. The Port de Barcelona lists it at €3.50 one way and €5 return.
From there you need a second leg:
- Aerobús: it does not stop at the port. Its city stops are Plaça de Catalunya and Plaça d'Espanya, so you first need a metro ride or a long walk. The A1 serves T1 and the A2 serves T2; the operator states a journey of about 30–35 minutes and service 24 hours a day.
- Metro: walk to Drassanes (L3), ride to Zona Universitària, then change to L9 Sud to the airport with an airport ticket.
This works if you travel light and have plenty of time. With two large suitcases each, the changes, stairs and crowds add up quickly. From the WTC terminal, you can walk straight to Drassanes.
4. Cruise line transfer
Most cruise lines sell their own transfer to the airport. It is simple to book with the rest of your cruise, but you travel on a shared coach on the cruise line's schedule. Compare the price per person with a private car for your whole party.
Disembarkation day: how much time to leave
Cruise lines give each passenger a disembarkation group or time slot, usually announced the evening before. Build your day backwards from your flight:
- Leaving the ship: "self-assist" passengers who carry their own bags are usually the first off. If you put your suitcases outside your cabin the night before, wait for your luggage group to be called.
- Collecting your bags in the terminal hall: allow extra time on busy mornings.
- The drive: usually 20–30 minutes, more in morning traffic.
- At the airport: follow your airline's check-in advice. Long-haul flights to the US or Canada and checked bags need more time.
Many passengers find that a flight before about midday is tight. If yours is early, ask your cruise line about self-assist or an early slot, and book your transport for that time. Always follow your cruise line's advice on the earliest flight to book.
Tips for North American travellers
- Terminals at BCN: check whether your airline uses T1 or T2. A free shuttle bus links the two terminals.
- Schengen exit: flights to the US, Canada and the UK leave from the non-Schengen area, with a passport check after security. Allow time for it.
- Luggage: cruise suitcases are often larger than airline carry-ons. Tell your transfer company how many bags you have so the right vehicle is sent.
- Payment: fares are in euros. If you take a taxi, confirm the payment method before you set off. A pre-booked transfer is paid in advance.
- Late flight? Many travellers spend the day in Barcelona. You can book a transfer from the cruise port into Barcelona and a separate ride to the airport later.
Going the other way: airport to the ship
On embarkation day the logic is the same in reverse. The taxi flat fare also applies from the airport to the Adossat Wharf. By public transport, take the Aerobús or metro into the city, then the Cruise Bus from Portal de la Pau. Arriving within the check-in window on your documents is enough; arriving very early usually means waiting. → Barcelona Airport to Cruise Port transfer
