How to Get from Girona Airport to Barcelona (2026 Guide)

Fixed price per vehicle · Free cancellation up to 24h

Short answer: Girona-Costa Brava Airport (GRO) is roughly 1h15 by road from central Barcelona, depending on traffic and where you are staying. The simplest public option is the Sagalés coach (line 604) straight from the terminal to Barcelona Estació del Nord: about 75 minutes, €22 one way or €35 return. If you are flying on from Barcelona-El Prat, line 602 runs direct to BCN T2 and T1 but only two or three times a day. The train is possible but needs a bus first to Girona station. The most convenient option is a pre-booked private transfer that takes you door to door, at a fixed price agreed before you land.

Times are approximate and depend on traffic, especially on the AP-7 and Barcelona ring roads at rush hour.

1. Bus: Sagalés coach to Barcelona (line 604)

Sagalés (also branded Barcelona Bus / Sagalés Airport Line) runs the direct coach between the airport and Barcelona Estació del Nord, next to Arc de Triomf. Departures are coordinated with Ryanair arrivals and departures.

  • Duration: about 75 minutes (Sagalés timetable).
  • Fare: €22 one way, €35 return (return valid 30 days), as of November 2026.
  • Timetable: the winter timetable runs from 1 November to 18 December 2026 and from 5 January to 22 March 2027. The number of departures changes a lot by weekday, from just a few on Tuesdays to around nine on Mondays and Fridays. Check the PDF for your exact date on sagalesairportline.com.
  • Tickets: from the ticket office at the entrance of the airport bus station or the ticket machine.

Pros: cheap, direct, and easy to find. Cons: Estació del Nord is not where most hotels are, so you will often need the metro or a taxi for the last leg. If your flight is delayed and the coach has left, the next one can be hours later on quiet days.

2. Bus to Barcelona-El Prat Airport (line 602)

If you have landed at Girona and need to catch a flight from Barcelona-El Prat, Sagalés line 602 runs direct along the AP-7. The current timetable shows departures from Girona Airport at 09:15, 13:00 (Monday to Friday working days only) and 16:00, reaching BCN T2 at about 10:50, 14:35 and 17:35, and T1 about ten minutes later. There is nothing in the evening. This line has run on a provisional timetable since April 2025 because of works at La Sagrera, so check the timetable before you travel.

Allow plenty of time: on a missed coach there is no direct alternative until the next one.

3. Train: bus 607 to Girona, then Renfe to Barcelona

There is no train station at Girona Airport. To go by rail:

  1. Take Sagalés bus 607 from the airport to Girona bus station, next to the train station. In the current winter timetable (1 November 2026 to 31 March 2027) it runs roughly every hour on weekdays, with about 30 minutes' journey time.
  2. Take a train from Girona to Barcelona:
    • Rodalies R11 (regional and MD trains): about 1h19 to 1h41 to Barcelona Sants, from €8.95 single (€12 on MD trains). It also stops at Passeig de Gràcia and El Clot.
    • High-speed trains (Avant, AVE, Avlo, Euromed): about 39 to 49 minutes to Sants. Fares depend on the train and date, from about €17 on Avant in early November 2026.

Pros: cheap and frequent once you are in Girona. Cons: a change with luggage, and the full journey usually takes longer than the direct coach.

4. Driving and taxi

The drive is straightforward: C-25/N-156 to the AP-7, then south to Barcelona. The AP-7 has been toll-free on this stretch since September 2021. The real cost is parking in Barcelona, which is expensive, and traffic on the Ronda de Dalt and Ronda Litoral at rush hour.

Licensed taxis wait outside the terminal. A metered fare to Barcelona is long-distance and not fixed. Ask for the price in writing before you set off, and check night, weekend and luggage supplements.

5. Private transfer (pre-booked, fixed price)

A private transfer means your driver is waiting at arrivals with your name, and takes you straight to your hotel, apartment, cruise terminal or to Barcelona-El Prat. The price is fixed when you book, so traffic jams or a long wait for luggage do not change it.

With ANDY:

  • Fixed price, booked in advance: you see the full price before paying.
  • Flight tracking included: if your Ryanair flight lands late, the driver adjusts.
  • Free cancellation up to 24h before pickup.
  • Rated 4.8/5 on Trustpilot.

For two or more people with luggage, a private transfer often compares well with coach fares plus a taxi from Estació del Nord, and it runs at any hour, including after the last coach.

Which option should you choose?

  • Travelling alone with a backpack, arriving in the day: the Sagalés 604 coach.
  • Connecting to a flight at El Prat: line 602 if the timing fits, otherwise a private transfer straight to your terminal.
  • Staying near Sants or Passeig de Gràcia: bus 607 + train can work well.
  • Family, group, ski or golf bags, late or early flight: a pre-booked private transfer.

Practical tips

  • Girona Airport is small: there is one terminal, so the coach stops, taxi rank and meeting point are all close to arrivals.
  • Late arrivals: check the last coach on your day of travel before you book your flight. Coaches are timed to Ryanair flights, but delays can still leave you stranded.
  • Going the other way: Sagalés advises arriving at Girona Airport at least 90 minutes before your flight. Coaches from Barcelona leave from different platforms at Estació del Nord.

FAQ

About 75 minutes by the direct Sagalés coach to Estació del Nord, and about 1h15 by car or private transfer in normal traffic. Bus + train via Girona usually takes longer once you include the change.
